The Drohobych Ivan Franko State Pedagogical University team shares experience of implementing the CRED4TEACH project
A delegation of vice-rectors and researchers from three Ukrainian universities paid a working visit to Drohobych Ivan Franko State Pedagogical University, namely Vyacheslav Riznyk, vice-rector for educational and methodological work (Hryhorii Skovoroda University in Pereiaslav), Maryna Vasylieva, vice-rector for scientific and pedagogical work (Ukrainian Engineering Pedagogics Academy), Vice-Rector for Scientific and Pedagogical Work Stanislav Chaichenko (Donbas State Pedagogical University), Dean of the Faculty of Pedagogy Yaroslav Spivak (Donbas State Pedagogical University) and head of the permanent working group on internationalization and project activities, national coordinator of the CRED4TEACH project Roman Nesterenko (Ukrainian Engineering Pedagogics Academy). Drohobych University was represented by Vice-Rector for Scientific Work Mykola Pantyuk, Vice-Rector for Scientific and Pedagogical Work Volodymyr Halyk, Vice-Rector for International Relations and Information Activities Ihor Hrynyk and the CRED4TEACH project team.
The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the results of the project “MOOC-based micro-credentials for teacher professional development” the consortium of which includes 10 partners from the European Union, Albania, Montenegro, Turkey and 5 Ukrainian partners.
“Micro-credentials are one of the trends in the development of modern continuous education. We are currently in the process of approving the national micro-credentials framework, and we have started work on the institutional framework. The legislative basis for obtaining, assigning and recognizing micro-credentials will be the first step to create an effective system that will allow students or workers to quickly acquire new knowledge and skills that meet the needs of the labor market thus increasing their competitiveness and mobility. It will also contribute to a more flexible approach to training and professional development, where individual educational trajectories can be adapted to the specific needs and goals of each student or employee,” said Roman Nesterenko.
Representatives of the Drohobych University project team spoke about the current results of developing massive open online courses, the experience of which they gained during the course “Towards becoming a MOOC designer“. The training took place in a mixed format: a combination of self-study and a three-day training program at Anadolu University (Eskişehir, Turkey). As a result of the training, 8 scientific and pedagogical workers of DDPU received appropriate qualifications for the MOOC development.
“For us, this is a new, somewhat difficult, but at the same time extremely interesting learning experience. The style of presenting the material, the approach to the development and structure of tasks, which is not typical for Ukrainian teachers, and, ultimately, the new experience of recording video lectures gave an opportunity to deepen our own pedagogical skills, adapt to modern learning techniques and better understand the needs of innovative education. This process will allow us to create interactive educational programs that promote more active involvement of students in the educational process and increase the quality of education as a whole,” Khrystyna Voytovych shared her experience.
Colleagues from Hryhorii Skovoroda University in Pereiaslav and Donbas State Pedagogical University expressed their desire to adopt the experience gained and noted that the introduction of micro-qualifications is a new stage in the development of higher education.
At the end of the meeting, the vice-rectors agreed to start the process of preparing documents for signing joint inter-institutional agreements as the universities have long-term cooperation in various fields and projects.
A pleasant memory for the guests will be excursions to the Ivan Franko Memorial Complex-Museum in Nahuyevichi, tour of the University and the city streets.
