The international conference “Shaping the Future of Teacher Development: Micro-Credentials for the Digital Education Era” was held on 29 April 2026 at the Science and Technology Park Montenegro in Podgorica.
The conference was organized by the University of Montenegro and gathered more than 60 representatives of universities, ministries, quality assurance agencies, teachers, researchers, and educational experts from Montenegro and several European countries, including Germany, Portugal, Türkiye, Albania, and Ukraine.
The event focused on the role of micro-credentials and MOOC-based learning models in contemporary teacher professional development. Through keynote presentations, expert lectures, and panel discussions, participants discussed digital transformation in education, lifelong learning, flexible learning pathways, and the future of teacher education systems. At the same time, the conference marked the final phase of the CRED4TEACH project and highlighted its main achievements and learnings.
Particular attention was dedicated to the exchange of international experiences and examples of good practice related to the design, implementation, and recognition of micro-credentials. Conference participants also discussed the importance of institutional and legislative support for the further development of micro-credentials in Montenegro and the wider region.
The conference included two moderated panel discussions. The first panel brought together course designers and university representatives involved in the development of MOOC-based micro-credentials within the CRED4TEACH project, while the second panel provided an opportunity for pilot participants to share their experiences and reflections regarding participation in micro-credential courses.
Participants emphasized the importance of flexible and innovative models of professional development, as well as the growing role of digital competencies, critical thinking, and inclusive educational approaches in modern teaching practice.
The conference confirmed the importance of international cooperation and knowledge exchange in shaping future models of teacher professional development and contributed to strengthening the visibility and relevance of micro-credentials within the educational context of Montenegro.
